Someone mentioned -correctly- in Friday's post that it seems like I've been jumping from job to job a lot, and yes, in the past year I have (I've had three different jobs since last September: one I'm keeping (the coffee shop), one was a placeholder (my retail job), and the other was the worst decision ever (AA)). June 18th will be the one year anniversary of when I left my job as a College Admissions Counselor to pursue other things (a job I held for 3 years), and looking back I was definitely naive to think I could find a perfect fit right away, finding the perfect fit takes time, patience, and extremely hard work. In an economy such as ours, it's easy to stay in a job just because you have it, but when that job is making you absolutely miserable, I don't think it's worth it. That is probably the exact opposite advice of all of our mothers and fathers, but I've been happier in this past unsteady year than I was in all of the secure ones. I don't want to come off as defensive, because the comment definitely wasn't mean (it was actually very nice, thank you), but it made me realize that maybe I should address the job changes I've gone through. I think there are a lot of people going through a similar situation, considering how many people I know who are having a hard time finding a job or have been laid off recently.

Ok, so on a different point, this is what I'm wearing! I bought this dress after hemming and hawing over it for the past few months, watching it sit in the sale section. The shape is definitely different than what I usually gravitate towards, but I loved the ruffles and it is super comfortable. Since I'm going into the office today, I added a cardigan and my favorite *sensible* shoes. To break up the blue and creme color scheme- which I seem to be wearing a lot of lately- i added a colorful swapped bracelet and my vintage bag. I didn't want to be too office-y because I'm going out tonight to meet Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage and the Delightful Dozen! I can't wait!
Anyways, if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask! and wish me luck, I'm off to work! xo

Congrats on the new job! Good luck today :)
So happy for your new position! I am definitely in limbo as far as jobs go, and looking towards grad school as I feel I can't really move up in my field now....it's a tough place to be, but glad to know that it's possible that there's light at the end of the tunnel :o) Love that purse btw.
I've definitely identified with some of your job movements in the last year or so. I used to teach English, which I guess was my version of the college administrator job, and it made me ridiculously miserable.
I'm glad you've found what seems a perfect fit for you. Lots of luck!
Congrats on the new job! This sounds like a fantastic fit for you and the Swapaholics. I know how hard it is to find the perfect fit job wise- after "leaving" my full time job I have had a few, retail, part time, bombs, and now have a good balance. It takes time but with patience you will find the perfect role.
How awesome! Congratulations on your new job and good luck :)
Congratulations, Julie! Sounds like a great job :)
Hoping it's your perfect fit!
I love your new dress!
Wow, congratulations!!
Sounds like you've found your dreamjob! :) It seems to combine all the activities you were already active in. Lucky you! :)
Good luck on your first day, Miss Brand Ambassador! :)
Congratulations on your new job!! And I love your outfit (you made the right choice with that dress, it's so cute!!)
mmm, just insanely beautiful, as always :) this dress and the cardigan work perfectly together, sleeves look so cool!
have a good day at work! ♥
Good luck with your new job! Awesome bag as well.
I know way too many people. Not because I'm so entertaining, although I can be at times :), but because I've held so many jobs! I heard somewhere you should create the job you want, so that's how I became a jewelry designer :)
Congratulations on the new job, it sounds like so much fun!
xoxo,
Anne
what kind of position did you hold at AA? and why was it so bad? over the summer my boyfriend and i are moving to brooklyn and im in the process of finding a new job. i already went for one interview at AA for a visual merchandizing position, waiting on a second interview.. i know they aren't the best company.. but the position sounded right up my ally. did they treat you poorly or something?
very cute bag!

congratulations! I'm glad you've found your niche. Tough times, but you're making your way :)
Congrats! I know a lot of people who were laid off in the last year who are just now finding really great jobs that they love. It's encouraging for those who are still looking!
Congrats on your new, Julie! It sounds like you may have found the perfect fit! I'm a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and things always work out. Because it's true - they do. It's been almost 2 years since I left a stable 9-5 job that I hated for most of the 6 years I worked there. When I first quit, I worked 7 days a week for the first year. Definitely not ideal, but it was so much better than spending a majority of my life in a place that made me miserable. In the last year, I've been fine-tuning my schedule and working hard to maximize my time and income and I'm finally getting close to what feels right to me. I'm so excited for you! Way to take such a leap of faith - it always pays off!
congrats, julie! that is a FANTASTIC job, and you'll be amazing at it!!!!
i quit my secure, well paying job with benefits that was making me miserable in january to work on my etsy shop full time. completely against what all the grown ups said and in complete fear. now, i am so much happier, even if my income is quite variable. sometimes, it's just what you have to do to keep your sanity. not everyone finds the perfect job the first time and you have to try out different things to figure it out. i think it is very much a life learning process.
on another note, i love this take on a chambray dress!

It's great to hear you found the job of your dreams: a friend of mine just got laid off also, and it worked out for the best since she was only waiting for a nudge since it has been making her miserable for years as well. So I totally agree that occasionally, getting out there is for the best, however it happens. Cute dress, it looks great on you!

good for you, finding a job that you absolutely love. i feel like too many people sell out nowadays- not that i totally blame them cause money is money, but if you have the perseverance to keep trying, why not?
Congratulations about the job, sounds pretty perfect! Also really like this outfit, pluas I am always a sucker for pretty much all denim/ chambray items.
hi julie! i love your blog and i've been reading it for a while now, congrats on the new job! i live in brooklyn, and a group of my friends and i usually have a clothing swap every few months at someone's apartment. i've found some awesome things! i love love love swapping - if you ever need help setting something up in brooklyn, let me know :)
Good Luck on your job! Sounds great :D
And I love this denim dress and your bag is so cute too xoxo

Congratulations on the new job, it sounds so exciting!! :) And I love your bag!
Congrats on the new job! Sounds amazing. I love your outfit here. Chambray always looks so cute an summery. That purse is a great addition too.
You look gorgeous! And CONGRATULATIONS on your new job! That DEFINITELY sounds like a dream job! And PERFECT for you! And I totally agree with you about not staying at a job you don't like! I ended up working a lot of years as a waitress and LOVING it and staying despite a lot of people thinking it wasn't a "real" job. But the pay was great and I loved it (and how many people can say that about their job?).
But yes, what an even awesomer job your new one is! I'd be envious if I wasn't busy up to my eyeballs with a toddler and a new baby (coming soon...very soon).

ps. I still totally heart your blog even if it doesn't show as of late. I've become a total lurker everywhere (the computer chair hurts my pregnant butt).
Congratulations on getting a new job!
I really love the ruffles on your dress and those adorable shoes you paire with it. Cool bag too!
Congratulations, Julie! I've had a strange but good year job-wise too. I quit the poorly paid and physically challenging but secure job I had had for over three years, to move into a more mentally challening but fun position working for one of my favourite companies! It sounds like something awesome has happened for you too and I'm so glad.
On another note - I really love this outfit and your hair looks gorgeous as always.
I love your outfit and your hair!!!
xx Alexandra
Eeek!! Sooo exciting! Congratulations, Julie on your new job. You are going to do so great!!

Congratulations! :) What a fantastic opportunity, I'm stoked for you! <3
Your hair's soo long! I love your outfit:)
I can totally relate...I was working in a cubicle job in a field I hated for 3 years and although I was very fortunate to have a job right out of college in this economy I knew it wasn't for me, and in May I finally left after landing an au pair job in Europe for a year. I say make your own opportunities and do what you love, even if it takes time to get there (which is usually the case, and after this year I don't know what I'll do exactly but I'm working on it)! Congrats, that sounds like an awesome job!!
